AIRPORT

Albuquerque International Sunport
This airport handles an average of 544 takeoffs and landings per day.  Southwest Airlines is the
largest carrier, with a little more than 50% of the airport's six million plus passengers per year. 
The climate in Albuquerque is nearly ideal resulting in only two shutdowns over the past
10 years due to inclement weather.

The Sunport is very well organized with short term parking available, inexpensive and very
easily accessible from both baggage claim and ticketing.  The ease of travel from this airport is
made more enjoyable by a stunning display of Southwestern art, both in the airport and
exterior to the facility.  The collection includes Native American, Hispanic and Contemporary
works by New Mexico artists.

You may think "Sunport" is an unusual name for an airport.  It was named through a contest
in 1965.   The third runner up was the "Albuquerque Enchantoport."

ABQ offers nonstop service to 27 cities, including Amarillo, Baltimore/Washington, Chicago
(Midway), Chicago (O'Hare), Dallas (Love Field), Denver, El Paso, Fort Worth (DFW),
Houston (Hobby), Houston (Intercontinental), Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Lubbock,

Arriving passenger pick up is made easier with a cell phone waiting area for vehicles,

preventing traffic problems and the need to circle the airport while waiting for your party to
arrive.

Free wireless Internet access available throughout the terminal as well as Internet kiosks
at gate A2.

Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) for various banks are located throughout the terminal
building in front of and beyond the security checkpoint.

Note:  Southwest Airlines has open seating.  Boarding priority is determined by boarding
pass designations of "A, B or C", with "A" being first priority.  In order to be ensured an "A"

AIRPORT PARKING

A four-level parking structure adjacent to the ABQ terminal with covered access provides
space for 3,400 automobiles on an hourly basis. There are 500 spaces available in the Long
Term Surface Lot. There is no charge to vehicles with Handicap identification.

The parking facility is open 24 hours per day. Cash, Master Card, VISA, American Express
and Discover are accepted for payment upon exiting. The safe, well-lit facility is patrolled
by the Aviation Police.

Handicap spaces are located on all four levels of the parking structure, near the elevators.

The short-term parking structure provides unparalleled easy access to the airport and ample
parking is usually available close to the elevators.  Sunport short-term rates are comparable
to long-term rates at other major airports.  This is a nice alternative, even for a long trip, if you
are running late.

TRAVEL BY RAIL

Amtrak
Amtrak provides passenger rail service throughout New Mexico.  The east-west route between
Chicago and Los Angeles passes through Albuquerque.

A light rail system that will serve the greater Albuquerque metro area from Belen in the South
to Bernalillo in the North, and eventually to Santa Fe, is under construction.  Initial routes
should be completed by 2007.

FREEWAYS

Two major interstates cross in the center of Albuquerque: 

From east to west is Interstate 40, which connects from California to the East Coast.

From north to south is Interstate 25, which connects from Billings, Montana to El Paso, Texas.

The intersection of the I-40 and the I-25 is referred to as "The Big I."  The construction of these two freeways through Albuquerque was not completed until 1966.
